Why do people MOD???
This is my first post, so don't abuse the mustang virgin.
I just ordered a 2005 GT Silver Convertible with the red leather and am looking forward to its arrival. I was assigned a VIN number last thurs.
I am wondering though after reading the April Road & Track, why people spend so much money on the mods. They have the Stock GT timed at 4.9 0-60 at a price of $25,7-5, they compare the STEEDA Silver Q at the same 4.9 at $38,100, the SALEEN 281 at 5.2 seconds 0-60 price $43.567. Then the GT-R at 5.0 0-60, price est $175,000. Only the Eleanor is faster at 4.2, price $147,000. My saleen dealer told me that the 1/4 mile times will be faster for SALEEN - they aren't. The stock GT tested at 13.5 same as Steeda, the Saleen was 13.7, the race car GTR was 13.6. Of course Eleanor was 12.5. The new brake systems don't improve stopping distance either. I am just curious what the benefit really is for the money????
I would have bought the Saleen convertible, but didnt like the seat, it is smaller than the GT and not as confortable for me. I am considering the air intake and maybe Vortech or Saleen Supercharger, but is it worth it???

RE: Why do people MOD???
Welcome to the forum! People mod thier cars to give them some personality. Some of the mods are performance, some are appearance. If you are looking for a real performance difference through a supercharger on your GT or wait for the 07 Shelby GT-500. I bet you will see a BIG difference in performance.

RE: Why do people MOD???
SVT announced that they "have no current plans" to build a Shelby convertible. I am buying the car solely for the topless driving. It will not be a daily driver, It will stay in garage when rain/snow/too cold/too hot, etc. I am keeping my current car for that...
If they have a shelby vert later on I might trade up for it. I figure i will have at least three years dirving my 05 vert GT
I like the look of the 05 saleen alot, but why would they make it slower than stock??

RE: Why do people MOD???
you didnt even ONCE mention appearance modifications. i for one dont care WHATS under the hood. who cares about zero to 60 whats the benefit? if you ask WHY mod its cause you wanna make the car LOOK unique. i dont like the front on the GT anyway. too many lights.
anyway why get a convertible if you care about your quartermile? that soft top is a serious drag.

RE: Why do people MOD???
Mods, for me, is the ability to do what I wanted to do when I was sixteen but didn't have the wherewithal to do any of it. It brings a sense of nostalgia and I can finally have another muscle car.

RE: Why do people MOD???
I think it has more to do with making it more customized, or to improve performance.
But just think if anyone of these mod squaders owned a '67 fastback and modded it! They would regret it because a stock '67 would be worth a lot more!

RE: Why do people MOD???
The reason I mod is there are things I dont like about the car...although not much! The side mirrors need color coding, the antenna needs to be automatic, windows tinted, silver stripes (although most stripe I think) - just stuff like that!
As for the speed issue, ie - superchargers, etc - some guys just want faster cars I guess and use it on track, etc. I use mine as a daily driver so these issues are not so important to me!

RE: Why do people MOD???
I didn't start modding until I came to these damn boards....j/k...... Mods for me are just plain fun....I enjoy working on my baby and making her unique to the other 05's out there...just a personal preference...
