Default Spring Install

Hey, delurker, the link you posted to your suspension install instructions was in the other Xenon headlight thread that was deleted. THANKFULLY, I printed and saved the instructions before the thread was wiped. However, do you think you'll be able to get some pics of the rear suspension install/deinstall up by early tomorrow morning (Saturday)? I plan to get crackin' on it by 8:30 in the morning.

I'll do my best to take pictures along the way and get them posted up for the rest of you guys.

Well, I installed my springs and put on the new wheels and tires. I think they sent me the Sport lines instead of the Pro kit, even though the box says Pro Kit. The front is absolutely slammed! There's barely two fingers worth of space between the tire and fender on the front and back. The ride is very stiff, but not uncomfortable; at least not until you hit a good sized bump. Then you will be bounded out of your seat if you're not wearing a seat belt. Literally. Sorry, but I forgot to take pics of what I was doing. It's a fairly easy task, though. Extremely easy if you have an impact wrench and a set of deep sockets.

I'm having a problem with my wheels/tires, though. For some reason, I have a wicked shimmy. I took it in this morning to have it aligned. The tech said he can't get it aligned to spec. I had a very slight pull to the right. He aligned it as best he could, but I think it is good enough. I didn't notice any pull when I left. The wheels/tires were mounted and balanced by Tire Rack, but they shake pretty bad at speed. I took them to another tire place and had them rebalanced and rotated. The shimmy is still there, if not worse at higher speed.

Does anyone have any ideas what would be causing it?? I highly doubt that I have 4 out-of-round wheels. Could it be something I did with the suspension? Is it too low?

Heh, just saw this - wasn't me posting suspension installation instructions, just pics of my headlight parts, although I did replace my own springs, shocks, struts, and rear sway bar.

From the pics, it looks like you went down about an inch and a half or so. No idea what's causing the shimmy, except maybe two out of round tires..but that's probably stretching it.

Looks really sweet, btw.

No, those are the Proline springs. These below are Sportline springs.

You need to take it to a custom alignment shop. My shop sloted the holes in the shock towers to allow more camber and caster

Thanks for the complement, delurker.

Does anyone have any ideas why I have this nasty vibration at speed? The steering wheel shakes pretty badly. Not bad enough to not be able to steer or hold a line, but it's like the tires are way out of balance. I wish that was it, but I don't think so; considering they've been balanced twice.

I just thought about it, but could it be that the tires are flatspotted from maybe sitting around in the warehouse too long? But then again, tires are stored on their sides, not on the treads. Aren't they?

I just can't figure it out. I'm getting frustrated and disappointed.[sm=headbang.gif] The next task is to put the stock wheels/tires back on and take it out to see if the vibration is still there. If so, there's obviously something wrong with the car.

That's what I would do... process of elimination.

Did you read my reply above? You still need to take it to a custom alignment shop or one that is willing to modify the strut location to get more camber out of it. I installed another set of Sportline springs on my friends 05 GT and we still had no shimmy or vibration like what you said. It's your car but I say you need a custom alignment.

When I installed a set of Steeda springs in my '88 GT, the camber and Toe-In adjustments changed.

The new settings were provided in the installation instructions.

I'd give your spring company a call and see what they say before spending any money on a cusom alignment.

Your situation is a definite bummer.

Just installed mine today without any problems maybe you do need to put the stock rims and tires back on just to see mine did not shake at all at any speed. But like td1320 told you you need to carry it to a custom alignment shop they had to shift the struts on the shock towers to get his aligned.Sorry to here you are having problems good luck you will be real happy with it once you find the problem. Let us know how it turned out.
