Default Alternator horror

So last week I started getting that P0340 code about my cam sensor about every other time I'd start up the car. Then a few days after that started I got a little bit of alternator whine. I was swamped with work, so I was going to wait until this week to get everything fixed. Well Monday night rolled around and I went to a car meet. On the way back everything in my car died, and I was lucky to get home and in a garage before the hail.

Pulling the alternator with a turbo set up is NOT FUN
Remove the intake pipe, had to remove the Intake manifold, and then the mounting bracket, wrestle a 1/2inch ratchet into the tensioner (there was very little room) before I finally pulled the alternator out after 2 hours (had to search for that ratchet for the pulley. I'll have time later today to go put everything back on (provided I can remember where all the bolts in the support bracket go.

The Solution:
Heat Shield. I called Hellion yesterday and ordered a heat shield because I noticed that the alternator, and the hotside compressor are all of 6-8 inchs away from each other, no doubt the heat had something to do with the alternator dieing.

i hope the heat shield helps
to keep the new one going strong.

that seems like a lot of work to
r&r the alternator, hopefully you
won't have to do it too often

Man thats a lot to do the alt. I did the alt on mine just a couple weeks ago. Took like 30 minutes to get it all apart and back together. It was really easy, I was surprised and I have never done an alt before.

You guys think that's bad. Pull the alternator on a 90 honda civic.

You gotta get the damn axle out of the way first and take it out from underneath.

Yea, I got everything back on and the car was moving in an hour. The whole complication comes from the support bracket, but I'm glad it's there anyway.
I wouldn't say unpredictable so much as unforseen. One look at the hardware and plumbing and you know the most basic task has turned into a real project.
