Default Deep windshield scratch

Hey guys, I've got a somewhat-deep scratch on my windshield, right in my line of sight (I'm assuming the wiper had a grain of sand or something on it this winter) and I was wondering if there's anything I can do with it short of having the windshield replaced.

It's not deep like a rock chip or something is, but it's definitely a bit more visible than the usual swirls on the glass from washing, so it's bugging me quite a bit.

I know there probably isn't much I can do with it in terms of products at the autoparts store, but does anyone know of anything a glass place or detailing shop could do with it so I don't have to replace the entire thing?

If it's not too deep, it may be possible to polish most of it out, and it is actually a reasonable DIY project if you've got a little time and a lot of patience. I've done this sort of "repair" on one of my other cars a couple of times and can tell you it'd take you about forever if you use anything as soft as a foam pad applicator.

Does it catch your nail when running across it?

Through ford, or through another company?

Was the dealer body shop that did it and it was an OEM windshield with the pony emblem in it. I could've saved a little if I had got a windshield without that emblem on there. But insurance paid for it minus my copayment/deductible so I just opted for the OEM.

You must have a low deductible since it was below $500.

Sorry to the OP - was a bit off track :/

Yeah I have very low deductibles on my comprehensive. I honestly kinda regret doing it though. I went on a cruise a month later with some of the local Subie and Honda crowd through the mountains. The Honda kids pretty much rode all over the shoulder and threw rocks up on me pretty good. Windshield now has lots of little pits in it from that drive.

Kids...

To the OP, if it doesn't bother you (when driving) then don't worry about it that much since it will possibly get screwed up again somehow. Especially in NJ where truck drivers don't haul there loads correctly and its like a mini sandstorm in front of you....

I'd live with it. Wait until you get a crack and then replace it. Most scratches aren't real visible anyway unless you're driving into the sun. Then they stick out bad. Otherwise not so much.
