probably just your battery, a dead cell causing low voltage battery drops below 11.5 volts all kinds of weird things happen. my taurus lx radio started searching and seeking, seat belt chime going on off electric seat wouldn't work, auto temp going hot and cold took to ford and before i get home they called to pick it up and it was the battery. something similar to limp home mode so car would run.

The OEM batteries have been known to be/go bad.
What was the manufacturer and date code on your battery
so I can start keeping data to see if there is a trend with
certain month batteries by a certain manufacturer.
You should not need a better alternator with OEM stock
amperage loads and UnderDrive pullies.
The OEM stock alternator should
keep right up.
But if you must, PAperformance sells nice 6G 200A alternators.
