Default Climate Control Snafu

I've been trying to fix the problem for some time now w/ no avail and I'm starting to get really pissed off. Here's the issue. The heat works great, and I can adjust the blower speed, but not the direction of the current. I am stuck w/ heat coming out of the defroter and floor. The light for the rear defroster stays on after pushing it on, the light won't shut off, the defroster turns off, but not the light. The A/C is completely non functional. It blows hot air and I can't change the current to blow through the vents, just the defroster and floor.

I've checked, double, triple, quadruple.....did I mention I checked to the connections and everything is tight and connected the right way. A few times I've taken it apart and back together again w/ success, but then after about 30 minutes it's back to crap again. How can I check to see if anything is shorted out or just plain broken. It's starting to heat up around here and I'm just too damn big to suffer in the heat.

should I just suck it up and take it to the dealership or try and find a replacement part on line? Anybody w/ the same experience or suggestions feel free to chime in.

Hey theres no shame when you cant seem to figure it out. I do 95% of my own work except I don't do Trans re-builds (I'll swap 'em all day), I don't paint and I don't do a/c.
Take it to someone you can trust. Besides it's starting to get hot out and you need your a/c. Good Luck
