Default Cleaning the inside of your wheels

How often to you clean the inside of your wheels? I'm talking about the part that's BEHIND the rotors. You know, the part that you really can't see. I'm ashamed to admit that I just did it for the first time. Wow, it was grimey back there. But it is hard to do, especially since I'm in the old fart category - 62 years old - and it's hard to lean over to do that sort of thing.

Is cleaning that really necessary? I never do it.

Without rotating the wheel as i clean it, I think there would be no way to completely remove the dirt. I also have side skirt exhaust, which further adds to my lack of motivation to wash behind the ears.

I've done it once, but I took my wheels off and cleaned them that way.

WOW, that's a coincidence...I just came in from cleaning them. Had the rears off to install the BMR panhard and decided to do them all.

I try to pull the wheels off two or three times a summer and really clean everything up on the inside. Too many years of high dollar billet wheels looking like crap when I take them off for the winter or try to sell them. I usually take this oppportunity to touch up paint on the barke rotors and such. I noticed on these cars the rotors tend to rust right where the wheel mounts (hat area) and it stands out like a sore thumb to me.

i usually take my wheels off and clean them maybe once or twice a year, but when i do, i put some wax on them so when i do my regular car wash, the dirt and grime come right off

What do you do about that? Use caliper paint on it? It bothers me, too.

Yea, I only clean em if I got the wheels off doing some work, then I'll clean the wheels and the wheel well area. My rims are also black on the inside so that helps hide the grime. Now if you had chrome rims on a daily driver, you'd probably find yourself cleaning back there more often...
