Granatelli Xtreme coils... 27whp/24wtq??!!
The June issue of modified mustangs conducted a test with the Granatelli Xtreme series coils on a stock/CAI setup 08' GT, picking up 27whp and ~24wtq. I thought these things weren't supposed to offer any advantage over the stock coils?? They said nothing about tuning...
Is anyone running these (or other aftermarket cop setup) and have any comments? Do they provide a power increase, or mileage increase, or any increase?

I keep hearing over and over again how people that have installed them "notice a difference". Then this article comes out and they pick up 27hp! I know the mags can't be trusted but that's a huge gain for just a coil pack upgrade. I'm guessing there had to be some tuning involved.

No tuning but you need to gap the plugs wider to take adantage of the higher voltage.
I have GMS coils and also have run MSD coils. Those results were ona forced induction car on that test. N/A would never see that much gain. I ran some other Granatelli coils before my KB went on and several of those failed. The new ones have been good for over a year so far.

JR quoted a 8-10hp gain on the naturally aspirated (CAI only) GT/CS in the test. They picked up 27/33 on the inital dyno run, a bit less on the follow-up run due to heatsoak. Must be an anomaly.

I'm sure I could find some in the $500-550 range IF I thought I could pick up 20whp . The GM Pro series (also a 60k volt coil) are $539 at american muscle (~$500 w/ the rebate). I'm actually thinking of some weapon-x brand for my car, just undecided. This article really peaked my interest.

My understanding is you'll see a decent gain on an FI vehicle and you MIGHT get some minor gain (~5 RWHP) on a NA car, IF you have a calibrated butt. People will claim numbers that just simply aren't real world, even if they're NOT the manufacturer. Until I see more unbiased data, I'm not sold. And IF it gains about 5 RWHP or so on a NA vehicle, I'll spend that kind of loot on other proven, less expensive 5-10 RWHP mods.
