Default Engine bogged while downshifting. WTH?

Has this happened to anyone? My car has about 21k miles on it and this morning when I was in 3rd gear behind this car, I downshifted to 2nd and stepped on the gas to pass him and the car suddenly bogged down and it almost felt like it was in limp home mode or something. The car wouldn't go. This lasted until I upshifted back to 3rd and everything was back to normal. I thought something really serious happened. Maybe I need to clean my intake/throttle body or something? I haven't cleaned it since the car was new.

May be your tires lost traction on the downshift and the traction control kicked in?

Doubt it. I was moving about 30mph and didn't feel the tires break their grip.

Don't know if this would be it or not, but:

sounds like you need to turn off the traction control lol My car has done this before. I'm trying to take off while in first but the traction control slows me down so much I can barely move. Of course the TCS light flashes in the dash while this is happening... But it could have happened and you didn't notice it.

+1 on TCS. Thats my guess as to whats happened. I imagine most people have done that at one point or another when forgetting TCS is on.

It may be the TSB that Ohiostate posted above or it could be your TCS. I've had a few occasions where I down shifted, stomped on it and it just sorta puttered as if I wasn't hitting the accelerator and then it would gradually pick up RPM. It never happens when I have the TCS off. I even noticed one time when it did happen with TCS on, I saw the TCS icon lit up on the dash.

My g/f had the TSB-related problem with her V6 and it's a very noticeable stumble when you go to accelerate heavily after cruising due to the formation of air bubbles in the fuel pump and eventually into the fuel lines.

Try to reproduce it with TCS off. I'll bet it doesn't happen. And cleaning your TB is always a good thing and can't hurt.

That TSB says 2005-06. I have an '07 though. The hesitation that it mentions is from a stop but my car acclerated fine from a stop. It only occured when I downshifted from 2nd to 3rd.
