About to give her a "spa treatment" . fresh fluid change of amsoil signature series 0w-30 and 75w-140 gear oil.

I haven't swapped out the diff fluid myself. It was done about 20k miles ago with the gear swap at the shop. I know it can go 50k+ but I'm going to change it myself now to flush any contaminants from the gear/trutrac swap.

Looks like they just used rtv to seal the diff cover.. or should I purchase a gasket?

Thanks Hammer. I may just purchase a new diff cover tomorrow with drain/fill ports. I'm going to finish the oil change tonight and consider the aftermarket cover tomorrow. I know that most don't clear the panhard but some do. As long as I'm removing it just as soon upgrade/

 

after you install the aftermarket diff cover, watch for leaks. i have a TA performance cover and it had a slow leak out of the drain plug. no drips on the ground but when i got close, the bottom of the diff was wet. used some teflon tape in the plug and its good now. i've heard of this drain hole leak on different after market covers as well. just a heads up, to keep an eye on it after you install.

Just use rtv as the seal, you don't need a gasket. Remove the bolts and leave the top one in part of the way, and carefully remove/pry loose the cover and it'll all come out.

Putting on an aftermarket cover with a drain plug makes for easy draining. And yes, make sure the drain plug and stud bolts (if present) are sealed with good sealant, or they will seep. Mine has a very slow seep right now that I plan to fix soon.

I use a LPW low-profile one on my 8.8 and it clears the panhard bar nicely.

 

I used the "right stuff" gasket maker when I did my gears. I think getting it off will be a pain but it doesnt leak at all.

I wouldnt use a gasket...

 

i used the gasket included with either the FRPP gears or the master shim kit from brenspeed. i can't remember which it came with. I installed the gears last weekend, should I recheck for a leak this week ?
