Default For those with new rims: TPMS Questions

Hey y'all,

I have a question for those of y'all who replaced your stock rims at some point in time: TPMS - how did you work around this?

I just bought some GT500 takeoffs that say the TPMS sensors are still included, so I thought I was taken care of. But when I spoke with one of the local tire shops here about putting the tires on and balancing them, the manager said something about having to re-use the old TPMS sensors? Something to the effect that those sensors were tied into my car and those had to be the ones used.

Is that right? If so, why would anyone ever buy new TPMS sensors?

Thanks for the help y'all. I'm new to this whole "getting new rims" thing.

Edmund

No, american muscle sells the handheld sync device to sync new TPMS sensors to your car. They show how to do it on there website. I believe the device is $20-$30 and takes 5 minutes to do all 4.

Break the tire loose push it down and snap the stock bands from the wheel and remove the sensor.....without moving the tire on the wheel, refill with air. Discount Tire did my sensors for free.

Since your take offs already have the sensors just buy this and resync the sensors on those tires to your car. Ask Nick of American Muscle for a discount code since they're an official sponsor of these forums:

Or go to a local Ford Dealer and ask them to do it.

I bought my device from American Muscle and was done in 2 minutes.

Install your new wheels before you bother to do anything at all. When I installed my new take offs I never got a warning light, and it's been a couple thousand miles with them already. If you do get the warning light, reprogram the sensors at your convenience. The warning light's no big deal, and reprogramming the sensors only takes a few minutes, and is done with the wheels on the car anyway.

Important part of the previous answers though: NO, you absolutely do not have to re-use your old sensors if your take offs have got sensors in them.

If you are using your original sensors, no need to program them, duh, they are already programed. Wheel position will not matter either.
