Please do NOT do that. The battery acts as a capacitor to smooth the electrical flow. You can fry something by running the car without the battery in the circuit.

Do what Nuke said, go have your system checked.

Once you get the car started, you can go to Autozone (or similar business) and they'll do it for nothing.

OP, I had the exact same problem earlier this year. I replaced the battery, but it ended up dieing again about a month later. In the end, I had to replace the alternator. Haven't had any problems since.
