Ordered my 06 GT
Hello all you high on life mustang lovers,
I just sat down with my dealer last week and ordered my first ever Mustang GT (06 Tungsten grey. This thing is loaded) I have a couple of questions for all of you. What is the next step? The salesman was really not sure of things. I know that the first job is sometime in August, but after you order it what comes next. Do I call the salesman back next month and find out or what? I'm new to this sight, so I'm sure you've already answerd these questions. (sorry) I'm hoping to get it sometime before November. What are my chances?
Thanks for your help.

From what I've already experienced and know is that your in for a wait. There's really not much you can do. You know its going to be an 06, and from what is stated, Job 1 on the 06's will start August 8th (others say its later in August, I'm not sure, I hope not) So nothings happening until then, production wise. But this is how the whole process plays out.
Order (Pending): that's where we're at now. The orders for 06s don't get accepted by the factory until either 7/1 or 7/7, I've gotten two different answers on that. After the orders are released to manufacturing they go from 'Pending' to...
Order (Queued): Basically this just means that the order has been submitted to production but no scheduling has been done
Serialized: The factory accepts and acknowledges production of your car and assigns it an official, full Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
Blended: Because they only build certain types of cars on certain days, based on type and trim, the Great Machine reads through your option list, makes note of the whole V6 or GT, Deluxe or Premium, Coupe or Convertible thing and assigns a production date, or 'Build Date'. Anywhere from a week to four weeks later, depending on transport scheduling, your car gets delivered to the dealer.
So I guess for now you can keep on your sales rep. about whether your orders been (Queued) yet and then when its been (Serialized), but nothing going to happen until you get that "build date", then you can start the countdown.
Hopefully your in a warm weather area where summer will last a little longer, but since you just placed the order November sounds like around the time you will most likely see your car. I placed my order back on May 11th and I'm hoping for a early September delivery, so who knows. Hope that helps. Congrats and welcome to the forum. - Mike

I just got a call from my dealer today. He said that he would be getting my build date tomorrow. Maybe he is full of crap but he said that he also said that he expects it to be built this month??? I have also heard elsewhere that they wouldnt be making the 06's until August so maybe he is full of it. I will let you all know tomorrow.
I also told him I will probably change the interior color and wanted to get the 18" wheels once they could tell me what they were!!! He still doesnt know, yet there is information posted about these wheels on the forums. Gotta wonder about some salespeople

You must have the same crap filled salesman that I had on my original order for an '05 GT. The salesman will tell you anything you want to hear. He may actually even believe what he is saying, but in reality he probably doesn't know much.
Talk to the inventory manager. Your salesman may not even know he can get the info that is available. We ordered an '05 GT from a local dealer in early April. Wrote up a contract. Left a big deposit. Didn't hear back for 6 weeks, when we called he said that "some of the GTs were not being made, but he would get back to us "tomorrow." In the meantime we had passed up several GTs from out of town dealers. In effect we got royally screwed and missed out on the '05 GT. Well we finally did get our GT, but we had to fly to Denver to get it.
After buying the 2nd GT, the original dealer resurfaced, and said that our GT was ordered after all. I guess 2 GTs are better than none. Well to make a short story long, over two weeks ago I last spoke to the original local dealer and he said our order was going to the factory and he would calll "tomorrow" with the VIN and other details. We are still waiting for "tomorrow."
After the car is built it should show up on the "Search dealer inventory" link from this site http://www.fordvehicles.com/cars/mustang/
We still don't know a build date on our '05, or even if it will ever exist. It will be a while until you hear about your '06.
A vehicle will only show up on a dealer's online inventory if it was ordered as a stock unit. True custom ordered units are not considered part of stock and will not show up on the inventory. I had a customer back out on his ordered Mustang GT (he decided on a Solara instead?!) and the vehicle sat in our showroom for two weeks before it sold. We would have sold it in half that time if it was on our online inventory from the beginning.
Nope..."tomorow" was Saturday and the bugger rang my cell phone by my bed and woke me at the crack of dawn at 11am!!! At least he is on the ball now. He didnt have a build date but he did have the "last 8 digits of the VIN"...which still sounds like he is smokin something. I called "Cathy" and she said it was serialsied awaiting schedule. Hoping to have a build date in a week.
On another note he said that if I wanted the 18" wheels then it would bump my order out at least another month. The way it rolled off his tongue I am sure he just pulled that info right out of his butt!!! Anywho, I am now nervous about getting the factory 18" wheels and might go for aftermarket. I have heard the factory ones are not bad and for a $900 upgrade it is pretty good value....just dont like the sounds of my car sitting there built waiting for the damn wheels to show up[:@]
Anyone tried to sell their stock 17" wheels and tires? Prices?

I have been driving by a local dealer here and they have had a silver 05 GT and a torch red GT sitting out front for over a week now. They also have a Redfire 05 GT sitting on the used lot. I havent stopped to check them out so they may have jacked the price up to high.
