On another note he said that if I wanted the 18" wheels then it would bump my order out at least another month. The way it rolled off his tongue I am sure he just pulled that info right out of his butt!!!
He may be right about that. Ford puts commodity constraints on certain options if they are "in short supply". I always find this to be ridiculous, and a bunch of BS, that Ford can not properly stock popular items. I won't find out the constraints until next week, but I would guess that the 18" wheels will be difficult to get for 2006 as the IUP was difficult on the 2005 models earlier in the year. If you want to add the 18" wheels after your vehicle was serialized, it will be difficult because it will be a popular item.

Even if you don't trust him, be thankful you have a salesperson that has the courtesy of keeping you informed on your order. He may not have had all the information at his fingertips, but he was quick to assure you that your order made some progress. That's better than a lot of people on the board who leave a deposit, then don't hear from their dealer for months on end.

Thanks Don. Hmm, $225 for wheel and tire combo...got any links for anything worth recommending for around that price?
You didn't say $900 for wheels and tires... just wheels. I didn't assume you planned on using the stock tires.

My bad, yeah when you look at the factory 18" option it is about $900. To try and avoid the wait and match that value then I was looking at what I could get for the same price....18" wheels and tires. For the excercise one should take into account what the stock 17" wheels and tires would fetch on fleabay or a local tire shop.

I reckon that it would cost at least $1200 for something comparable to the factory 18" (I saw that the 18x9 bullits were around $155 shipped at mustangtuning.com...they look pretty good actually.) A local shop said they would give back about $35 a wheel/tire set for the stock 17's. That brings the net to about $1100. So we would be paying around $200 to $400 or so to avoid the wait for factory 18's plus have more of a choice as well.

Sounds reasonable to me.

For what it's worth, I had a buyer for my stock take-offs at $400 for the set ($100 per). But, I eventually gave them to my daughter.

$400...wow...now that you mention it I bet there are a ton of people on this forum even with older mustangs who might be interested. That would make it a wash...no other reason to wait on the factory 18's except that they are "factory".

The only reason to demand factory rims (or anything) is if you plan on keeping the new Mustang for about 30 years! Or plan on selling it someone else who has room to park it for that length of time!
Remember, the '65 Mustang didn't start to go up in price until almost the '90s!
