Miles to Empty Display Issue
I have a 2006 GT 5-speed. I have noticed a problem over the last week with my display of "Miles to Empty" This is IMPORTANT because my factory warranty expires in 1 month.
My Miles to Empty display shows 39 Miles to Empty even though I have 1/2 a tank. At first I thought it was my fuel gauge, but it seems to be going down as I drive.
I have reset all display options but it continues to seem "off"
Any suggestions, advice, etc...?
Thanks as always.

It is based off the fuel consumption for the past 500 miles and it averages it out. So if you did recently disconnect the battery it will be averaging out at the current mpg. Much like hitting the reset when displaying average mpg if you reset it while coasting down hill it will show an incredible number since it has nothing to average it out with. Fill the tank up a couple times and it will reset itself.
My car did a wierd thing where at about a 1/4 tank left of gar the car would suddenly drop to say 0 miles to empty and the gauge would show empty. Then sometimes after turning the car off then on again it would go back to normal. I ignored it one time and ran out of gas... but when I filled it up the car only took 10 gallons... go figure. Took it to the dealer 3 times before they figured it out and fixed it. Turned out to be something electrical.

The on-board computer averages that parameter and others. On top of that, it's calculations for that AND for the MPG value are based on CALCULATED variables and not actuals. In other words, do yourself a favor and hand calculate your mileage at each fill-up and begin taking the on-board data for what it's worth... not much... and just watch your fuel gauge.

I also failed to mention that, at each fill-up, you should try to make it a habit to reset those items that you're not tracking long-term. As an example, I reset my average MPG, trip meter and gallons used (if I recall that correctly). I suspect your miles until empty will straighten out by frequently zeroing (at fill-ups ONLY, mind you) all those parameters that can be reset.
Thanks for everyone's feedback as always. FYI - I have not disconnected my battery at any time.
Like I said, I have about 1 month left on my factory warranty. It never did this before though...
ACARTZ - What specifically did the dealer find? Not sure I trust them as much as feedback here.
NUKE - My concern is that my gas guage may be faulty - but I think we have ruled that out.
Any other ideas/feedback/suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks again.
