wiring in a trailer pigtail
Need some advice please. I have a hitch installed on my 07 GT to tow my tire trailer, but need to install the wiring pigtail. The manual warns of attaching a pigtail. I need to know where to properly install the wiring and not place the harness in jeopardy. Any advice? Thanks in advance....

go to U-Haul
they sell a universal 4-pin setup.
you simply splice the wiring into your OEM brake harness. Quite easy, and it uses those compression "T" splitters. So no cutting/taping required.
what the heck you going to be towing? and did you install airbags? your car is gonna squat

The SJB wont like it and the increased load will toast it pronto.
Stealership has replaced quite a few SJBs from improperly
attached trailer light wiring.
The proper way is to power the trailer lights directly from the
battery thru switching devices attached to the S197s taillight
harness.....
The clearance light circuit can handle the extra load of the clearance
lights on the trailer but the STOP/TURN circuit suffers from the increased
load of the STOP/TURN bulbs on the trailer....
First the fuse blows so you replace it, then it blows again so you replace
it with a bigger fuse just to get home, then the SJB smokes the
semiconductors for the STOP/TURN circuits....
And dont get me started with those "T" compression splitters as you call them...
Scothchlock InsulationDisplacementConnectors are pure junk and trouble down
the line.
So its a double no on those suggestions Tytus....
Hmmmm... a simple search of the forum for trailer hitch brings up all sorts
of S197 Trailer Hitch related posts....

and you base all of this on what?
I've used those basic 4-pin wiring setups for many many years. is this just a Mustang specific thing? or something that all newer cars are going to do?
haven't done it on 2005+ vehicle though. I've been buying 'em pre-wired since then.

45 years of experience...
What ya got under your belt?
Yep, its a new thing with the S197s and the Dodge Challengers and such.
Adding 8 more bulbs to my challengers taillights for sequencing required
some pretty tricky wiring mods to the weblectric plug n play sequentials.
The 4 added bulbs run directly from the battery while the original 4 work
off of the IntergratedPowerModule as OEM.
What worked in the past is cooking SJBs from using thinking from the past
with the newer cars of the future.

cool.
thanks for the info. must be annoying as hell to wire up the relays and run all the wiring straight from the battery though.
almost make it not worth the effort IMO. But I guess you could run a dedicated fuse block to the trunk area using some 0-2 gauge wiring...that would support radio/speaker upgrades later on down the road as well. kind of a 2-birds with 1 stone

I would like to know what hitch you have? Uhaul has one for the 09 but not sure if its the hidden hitch version....
I found a matching small, low profile, under 500lbs wells cargo trailer that matches my car! it will fit my RC Planes awesome! LOL
