Default What Size Oil Filter Wrench?

Hey guys, getting ready to change my oil; and noticed my dad's Oil filter wrench is too big.

The filter that is on right now is just a generic crappy oil filter. What size and brand wrench do you guys use?

Go to the parts store, pick up a filter on the shelf and see which BAND wrench fits. Then buy it. Its pretty close to 4" dia.

Pick up a Motorcraft filter and whatever size wrench fits it - you'll be good to go. Go with a good synthetic oil and you'll be golden.

You could also get a filter with a nut welded to the top such as the K&N oil filter. Then you can just use a 1 inch wrench to take it off.

87-95 mm wrench is what I ended up with.

You were darn close; thanks man.

I got a bad *** deal from WRXTransformed on 6 quarts of Amsoil 5w20XL and an Ea filter.

I'm going to do it tomorrow, 100 degrees is a little out of my comfort zone...

One question I have though; when changing the oil, I have to jack up the car(no ramps ) and was wondering if it is alright to leave the oil that is stuck in the oil pan?

Jacking the car up a tad will actually allow you to drain more oil then if it was level IMO. And if it doesn't, what remains is usch a small fraction of the volume that I wouldn't worry about it.

I also use the Amsoil oil and Ea filter. Good for at least 10,000 miles.

Oh, cool, I was thinking it would create a small pocket that I couldn't touch.

The drain hole is at the rear of the pan so you'll benefit with the front up, be it jacks or ramps, as far as the pan goes. I can't say if it'll also trap some oil in other places while it drains TO the pan.

With regard to jack stand, I have stands and ramps and I find the ramps to be easier to use and I feel more secure under the car with them then with the stands (even though my stands are pretty beefy). If your stands are the cheap stamped metal type, I truly hope you'll be careful. They've been known to collapse.

Sorry. Off my soap box now...

Haha, it's all good. They are a pair of 2.5 ton stands, so they should be able to hold my car up. They have so far anyways.
