According to some of the reasoning here, you might just want to wait for an '07 or '08. Or maybe the even newer body style that'll be available in 2012, those should have REALLY nice rims. Oh wait, bugs the first year, better get a 2013. All kidding aside, if you find the car you want now, get it now.

Now thats just plain crazy talk

c'mon roeper... by your logic getting an 05 means hes garaunteed a collector.... now

1) How many people are really going to keep this car that long? something is telling me not too many

2) I highly, highly, highly doubt this car will be collector..... what about it would make it so? its nice but certainly not ground breaking or monumental (perhaps by mustang standards but thats not saying too much... albeit still a nice car). Unfortunately most of the hype around the 2005 mustang is that ford FINALLY makes a mustang that isn't somehwhat "behind" when compared to other cars of its "class"

Im sure the '06 will have some bugs worked out, but i wonder if they are still gonna use the horrid Shaker cd players? As far as I know, they STILL dont have those workin right!

I would order the '06 for the following reasons.
1. Any GT you find now will either have too many test miles on it or have a market adjustment to it. Never overpay for a car!
2. Placing an order for an '06 will allow you to add or subtract what you want or don't want. See if you can delete the Sh*tter 500 or 1000, order specific 18" factory Bullitt wheels, IUP or the red interior. If you can get it to come from the factory tailor-made to your specs you will have an original mustang that you could never get with an '05 off the lot.
3. You may like that new Grey
4. You will have time to accumulate the funds to add more mods! You'll also have more of a knowledge base from the folks here who are already installing pipes, intakes, etc. Even the new issue of 5.0 Mustangs and Superfords had numerous articles on the '05 and every parts distributors' ads seem to have a photo of the new Mustang!

If you find the 05 you like and has the options you want, BUY IT. Most all the bugs are worked out now if you the car is produced after April 1st I think. I have had mine now since May 14th and I have not had any of the problems that were noted in the early release. If you like the new wheels and color that are not offered right now as they are offered on the 06, wait for the 06. If you place your order now, it might be late October or November before it comes in. I am sure the order bank for the 06 is probably getting a full for September/October delivery.

I was kidding. Not quite sure how my statement would lead one to believe that an '05 is an instant collectible though. But wait, I'm a crazy old fart.

I don't think the 05's are going to hold value better than the 06's, they are the same body design and if the 06's sell like them, it's a no brainer, plus you get the 18' wheel option and a suspension that is tuned for them.

All things being equal... unless there is an option you're dying for on the 06 that you can't get now, I'd snag an 05. Resale value is probably a wash since you'll have a "low mileage" 05 (because it wasn't driven for most of that model year). Most of the bugs seem to be worked out this late in production. If you like it, buy it. If ya don't, wait and get what you want. Either way though, don't get hosed by a dealership... shop around.

By now, most of the new model bugs have been worked out. The 06 should have a better resale value initially, but I think the 05 will be more of a collector's item. During the 06 model year they will probably build a lot more car then in 05, so that will make the 05 even more desirable in the long run.

I plan on keeping my car for quite a while, thus I'm glad I went for an '05

What are all the bugs you are refering to? I know the shaker seems problematic, and I've heard of the struts having some issues and the passenger seat not being adjustable. Is there anything else that needs fixing in the new model?

the one that immediately jumps to mind is the fuel tank issue, where some people had problems filling their tank. There have been some others, it's probably best to search "TSB".
