Guys quit complaining about laser jammers are illegal. First off, we are in a discussion about radar detectors, which detect radar which detects people speeding, which is trying to get an advantage on something you shouldn't be doing anyways. So, with a RD being legal, it's still less then ethical and used for obvious reasons.

Next, the companies that design these laser jammers are not dumb, they do realize that they are illegal in quite a few states. The new blinder series there releasing has a auto shut off feature. You can set a timer between 4-10 seconds after it picks up a laser to automatically shut off the system, and then once off will rearm after 1-2 minutes of being off. The jammer sensors can also be used as parking sensors or garage door opener as well i believe. The ZR4 system from escort mounts up to certain escort models (like the 9500ix), and double tapping the mute button kills the laser system.

Also do your research on LIDAR guns, MOST of them do not throw codes. I believe there is one or 2 models of higher end guns that display JTG (Jam To Gun) codes, after a certain close range. Most will simply display 3 blank dashes and make a noise until it gets a reading. But you have to realize that your getting shot with a laser, getting a alert and jamming him, you simply have to get to the PSL (Posted Speed Limit), which is usually attainable in a matter of seconds, then kill the system. If your good and efficient at it, it should take no more then 5 seconds to be at the PSL. Then he can get your speed and you can go on about your business.

Do I speed more with my RD? Actually, I tend to drive closer to the speed limit most of the time on average since the RD has me more atuned to all the potential hot spots. It's those desolate areas where I'll pick up a rabbit and run 90-100 MPH for maybe 1/2 hour to an hour or more that the RD gives me some added confidence to speed. And after the novelty wore off a bit, I was sticking to 5 MPH, maybe 10, over the PSL about 99% of the time anyway. Other than that, speeding is pointless if you're not putting down at least 100 miles or more per one-way trip.

thanks ken, ill check them out!

im 18 and i still have a clean driving record, more than i can say for most kids my age. The college im going to requires a clean driving record and i want to become a Master Technician for AUDI after college and they also require a clean driving record.

i dont want the detector so i can haul *** everywhere, i want it as more of a saftey net, people in SO CAL are getting pulled over for doing 75 on the freeway now just going with the flow and i dont want to be picked out and handed a ticket, i just want that comfort zone

my friends cobra was annoying at first it flashed X alert everywhere but we managed to turn it off

he payed $200 + for it and the only problem is it goes into smart power.where it turns itself off which is a pain in the ***. After sending him the link to this thread he wants a passport lol

thanks again for the info i really appreciate it, i dont want to blow my money on crap!

Another option is using Trapster.com. This is an application for the Apple i-phone and blackberry's that uses the internal GPS function to laert you to the presence of "known" speed traps, as entered by other users. You can just touch a button as you pass the trap, and it is entered into the Trapster database, which users have access to. I don't have it, but a friend who drives an EVO does. I will add it when I (ever) update my phone to a GPS-enabled unit.
