Quick question. I want to mount my radar detector above my rear view mirror. I see a lot of people have done this but I was wondering if the dot matrix thing, on the center of the window with the pony, causes any problems with the performance of the detector?
I would mount it under your mirror if I were you... the suction cups might be a problem up there.
Well thats not really a problem. The suction cups wont allow it to fit there (at least with my detector) but I can fab something up that will work fairly easily. I just want to know if the dots will interfere with the detectors performance.
I have a tint strip across mine, mine had no problems staying there.. we tryed that on our other car that had the dots and it wouldn't stay on very well..
Yes but can a radar detector "see" through the dots????
yes, radar can. Radar (Radio Detection And Ranging) uses radio waves. Your radar detector will actually work if you were to stick it under your dash(although not as well due to the metal body/motor in the way.) A thin window decal wont effect it at all. In fact i have mine mounted that high simply because it is hidden a little better.
Laser, or LIDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) on the other hand must have a clear shot out the window for obvious reasons. however, once they got you with laser, they got you. So laser detection is almost worthless.
