Default Fuel guage problem

I am having a problem with my fuel guage on a 2006 GT 5-speed with 8500 miles.

The Miles to Empty display says 26 miles to empty but my fuel guage is still at 1/4 tank. I would usually get this message at about 1/8 tank. It seems to get stuck at a notch above 1/4.

I am concerned because I don't know if my fuel guage is broken and don't want to run out of gas. Of course, my factory warranty just expired : (

I have not recently disconnected my battery (just FYI). Could it be a "fuel sensor" problem?

Anyone have advice? Thank you!

I would not expect the fuel sensor to be fouled at 8500 miles, but adding a bottle of Techron will not hurt anything.

Fill the tank and then reset all the on-board computer values.

Guys - tried all that. Thanks for your help. I am taking it to the dealer while still under warranty. I will post their results.

If ANYONE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM - PLEASE POST. This will help me and the dealer service area.

THANKS!

There are four modes of the fuel guage. One is recovery mode which takes up to 50 minutes
sometimes to get out of and the guage does not show
the fuel level at that time.
Do you fuel up with the e brake off and the key on by any chance??
