Default 1/4 mile 2006GT500

After reading R&T about the new 2006 GT500 I have a question. I'm hearing that the GT500 with 450 HP will do the 1/4 mile in mid 12s. I read somewhere that the 390HP Cobra turned mid 12s. Is Ford holding back the real 1/4 mile times for the GT500. Your thoughts please.

My first thought is that it will be a 2007, not a 2006. My second thought is I want one. Other than that I am pretty well guessing like everyone else.

Ford hasn't released anything on the GT500... what you are reading is mag speculation (C/D did the same thing... "guessed" 12.2). And, I suspect the GT500 is much heavier than the 390hp Cobras. It's almost 300 pounds heavier than an 05 GT. Plus, it will have 3.31 gears... not great for 1/4-mi times.

That car will run high 11s. Mags always underestimate Mustangs. The mag time on a 2003 Cobra was 13.2 and we all know how fast they really are.

Here is a simple 1/4 mile calculator
3800 lbs at 450 hp = 12.61
Just guessing at the weight.
