weight savings opportunity for S197?

Take out your spare tire, swap the UCA, LCA, Panhard Bar, Driveshaft, and lighter wheels and you probably would save yourself about 70-90lbs. Take out the sound white crusty sound dampeners under the carpet of the car and that would remove roughly 150lbs. I have no doubts that a completely gutted S197 could be under 3000lbs with a driver

Front seats are heavy there are lighter racing seats... back seat remove it... Lexan front / rear glass swap ... k member swap... door panels ... all the stuff in the trunk... lighweight battery.. Suspension pieces... Rims..... pull the radio, speakers etc... headliner... Aluminum drive shaft...
Not sure how much you could drop but I am sure I have removed a couple hundred pounds.. But I have added weight for my Rollbar, Brakes etc..
I think there was a thread started a while back about this..

I saw an article in a magazine where they swapped the stock two piece driveshaft for an aftermarket one piece and that saved 25 pounds. just about every part from BMR is lighter than the stock piece it replaces, I'm sure other brands are the same way. race seats would be a good choice, the stock power seat is definitely going to outweigh a race seat.
other than swapping parts you'll have to start removing stuff, spare tire and tools are the easiest. after that you'll have to decide if it's worth it to start stripping the car. personally I'd rather add power than take out interior stuff if it's a street car.

You may have made that comment as a joke but it isn’t. One of the top fuel drag guys was interviewed and said that the driver losing weight was for pound the most cost effective way to get a better ET. So if you want to win stay thin! Save money on food too!
