4.10s and new dyno tomorrow...

RE: 4.10s and new dyno tomorrow...
Ok, the 4.10 gears are in. The verdict? I like them -- a lot!
According to JBA Racing, I need to give them a chance to break-in. They say to run them for 10 - 20 miles, then let them cool down. Repeat this cycle 4 or 5 times, and preferably give them 200-300 miles before I do anything "extreme" (such as burnouts, etc.). But, they also said I should be able to take it down the track on Friday night (I just need to put some miles on it first ).
Acceleration from a stoplight is much better, but not "pin your ears back" type launching. It does put your butt in the seat nicely though! The shift from 1st to 2nd happens real soon (the 1st gear ratio in the auto tranny is lower than 1st gear in a manual I think); and you're in 3rd before you know it.
Cruising at highway speeds isn't bad at all... better than I expected even. In 5th gear (OD), with cruise control set at 65mph, it's turning at about 2300 rpms. It's about 2500 rpms at 70mph, and at 80mph it runs at about 2800rpms (about 500rpms more than the stock 3.31s).
All in all... noticeably better acceleration; yet still very streetable.
And the Predator quickly and easily recalibrated my speedometer in about 5 minutes.
BTW, they are FRPP gears. Total price installed was about $623. I know I paid a little premium to have JBA do them, but I wanted a reputable company doing the work (two other places quoted me around $600 too).

How much was your dyno? There is a place near me in missouri that charges 140 for the first hour and 40 after that. Just curious to see what others are paying. I found another place that will install Eibach Springs for 125 not bad eh? Every where else wanted over 200-400 (Dealer Ship). This place sells Eibach springs and was the same place i had my windows tinted. The guy there is really awesome to deal with. Anyone in St Louis needing springs or Tinting should go there. It's the Tint Source off of the Rockroad/270.

I assume that you are getting a new dyno after break in?
hmm... since I am not a huge top-end guy... I wonder if this is something I might like... I also wonder if there is ANY place nearby that can do that kind of work...

No need for another dyno yet. Gears don't add hp... just changes the way the car responds to the hp it already has. I'm sure you could find someone to do a swap for you... even a Ford dealer, if no performance shops are near you.
Oh, BTW... I took the car to 100mph on an open stretch of interstate in 4th gear (OD off), and it was still pulling very well. I don't think I gave up any top end to speak off. I have no doubt I could still hit at least 130mph to 140mph if I wanted to (or needed to).

I know the gears don't add HP, but don't they change the torque curve? Or is it even enough to give a *** about???
As far as Performance Shops here... I have done only a cursorary search, but the results are not very promising... 6 places come up on Google Map for the whole area. Unfortunately, Little Rock is NOT the hotbed of performance upgrades... lots of truck though...

Thanks, Dave.
I just took my wife on a shake down run and she flipped! hehehe. At one point, I pulled up to a deserted 4-way-Stop intersection. I stood on the loudpedal and this thing spun my 275/50 Nittos all the way through first gear and right into second. Not bad for an automatic and tall, fat tires! [And no, it wasn't a burnout... just a good 'ol fashioned peel out ]
And honestly, I'm very happy I did not settle for 3.90s or 3.73s. I definitely would not have been satisfied. In fact, 4.30s might have been a good choice, too. But, since a SC is in my future, I think the 4.10s are a good compromise. However, if I feel they are too steep after the SC is installed, I won't hesitate to change them (and admit it).
