Question Axle back install problem/question

I installed some borla axel backs I got used last night and for the most part it went pretty well, except that the clamp between the muffler and mid-pipe on the drivers side doesn't seem to do it's job. The passenger side is fine, but no matter how tight I tighten the driver's side it doesn't seem to do anything. Is it probably just a bad clamp?

Do you hear an exhaust leak or is it loose? Is it hung up on the "peg" that sticks out of the mid pipe?

Unless you hear an exhaust leak or it's loose, I wouldn't worry about it.

The few times ive had that problem ...ive found the clamp just needs to be moved a little. make sure the edge of the clamp is all the way even to the edge of the axleback pipe,that way its tightening down on the weakest part of the metal and you should get a better fit! also ive found that sometimes new clamps need a while to form to the pipe and after a few re-tightens theyre fine..hope this helps some.

I'd run the car up to a muffler shop and just double check everything....if it is indeed a bad clamp, they'll be able to replace it immediately and get you on your way. Happened to me with my original flowmasters on my 05 GT. Muffler shop didn't even charge me for the new clamp.

Thanks guys. The clamp seems tight enough around the muffler itself, I can't move it up and down at all, but there's still lots of play between the muffler and mid-pipe. I loosened and tightened it back up a few different times in different places but no luck. I haven't tried putting the clamp over the groove itself that the mid pipe's peg sits in, I could gave that a shot. If nothing else I'll try a muffler shop.

Pick up a U-clamp at any autoparts store. I believe it's a 2 1/2" pipe but they should be able to help. I had to ditch the stock clamp on my passenger side because it wouldn't stay tight.
