supercharged V6 faster then a stock Gt500?
hey guess, damn long time since ive been on here, but i was saving some money up and was talkin to one of my buds about supercharging my V6 and he said that if i put a vortech blower on my V6 il b cranking around 350hp and il beat a stock gt500. but after i was lookin on vortechs website not even they said id get that much hp from it. i thought if anybody knew about this this guy would know, so what u guys think, what kinda gains would i get from a vortech blower, and would it have the ability to beat a stock gt500? he also said itd b about 65 hundred for the blower and install, is that right?

I'm sure someone who has done it will chime in shortly.. but to get you an answer right away.. people have put out 400rwhp on the stock block 4.0.. that would easily beat a stock GT500.. new forged pistons are what you need and some good boost/fuel delivery.. not sure if the vortech can deliver that.. i believe the people i saw with those figures were running a paxton.. hope that gives you an idea of what direction you want to go.. cheaper than a GT500 or a s/c GT im sure once you figure your total cost.. so not a bad way to go. although maybe you'll need a new trannY? i dunno on that.. and definetly some fatter wheels/tires

Your friend knows less about horsepower and gt500s than almost anyone else.
First off the vortech makes 330 hp and because it's a centri it's more like 300 for comparison.
This makes it the worst supercharger for the mustang (v6 v8 or gt500 actually).
The x-charger makes 345 hp.
Also 400 RWHP will not beat a GT500 "easily"
402 RWHP is the minimum you need to beat a GT500.
The best way to achieve this with a full bolt on kit for the v6 + the x-charger hi po.
Cams, heads, zabtec throtle body, water injection, mac filter upgrade, kooks longtubes, hi-flow cats, welding a "chicane" style plate on the intercooler, the intercooler x-charger upgrade, an electric water pump, and the throttle coolant bypass.
That's $6500 + install giving 405 RWHP without water injection, 409 with.
I came up with the list in exchange for $5 for a local mustang guy. I'm working from memory but it should be very close to the truth if I didn't miss anything.

you'd be cheaper out the door throwing a 4.6 3v in there with bolt-ons.
I know there is a whole subculter of V-6 guys who make sleeper killer cars...but why?
anyways, you are talking about needing to run 10+ PSI on your 4.0 block...which will necessitate going forged.
and since the charger is a centrifugal unit, you are going to be seriously lacking in HP down in the low RPM's.
compared to a GT500 which has at least 300 HP available at idle...yeah, your v-6 is gonna need alot of work to even put up a decent fight.

Good luck with that keep us posted, save the 10 grand put it and your v/6 mustang up for trade and you could almost get a slightly used GT 500, takes the guess work out. IMO Nothing against the v/6 Mustang, but their are some good prices on used gt500.
