Default emissions - cai/tune question

It's time for emissions testing again, and I'll be removing my CAI and retuning the car to stock. I'm currently running Bama's 93 race tune, I have about 40 miles left until empty. Is it too early to remove my CAI and return to the stock tune while I still have 93 in the tank? I plan on putting 87 in it and running it for a while before I get the emissions test. Thanks!

i heard you should be around 40-50 miles on the stock tune. then you will be fine for emissions. finishing off the tank with the stock tune will not hurt anything.

having 93 in the tank with the stock tune wont hurt anything, you just wont gain from the higher octane

do they actually check under the hood for the emissions stuff?

and most CAI's are CARB certified. I'd give it a try first. If anything, your tune should make the car even better on the emissions side of the house.

well the tune shuts off the rear 02's so he has to go back to the stock tune.

i have the bama tune and ran into the same issue during inspection time

okay, so slap the stock tune back on there

but I'd check to see if that CAI is CARB certified. if so, it will easily meet/exceed any other states exhaust sniffer. We all know how bad the Republik of Kalifornia is about that stuff. Anything that can pass their stuff is 50 state legal

I know my FRPP CAI & FRPP tunes are CARB certified. I can go anywhere and the emissions testing would be a non-issue.

Yes we do, they care so much about the enviroment but somehow it still got the most cities with the highest pollution.

The real solution is to get a tune with the rear O2 sensors on. Then you can leave the CAI on and not have to change anything. If you have cats anyway, then having the rear sensors on doesn't hurt anything.

But in the interim, yeah, putting the stock intake back on and reverting to the stock tune will get you set up, and then drive the car a couple of days to get the OBD tests to run (you WILL need more than 1/4 tank of fuel and up to 3/4 tank to get all the OBDII tests to complete).

I completely agree with you, I'm originally from OC, drove to LA a lot of times and saw what goes on there.
