Default Shifter type question

Hey yall,

Was just wondering since I have to wait until the weekend to pick up my car, which shifter I got with it exactly I forgot to ask the dealer and they closed out early today.

So I know there is the chubby looking black with a little bit of chrome looking shifter. And then there is the all chrome ball shifter.

Which is the one I got if I ordered premium spec 400 not the 401 one with the accent stripe down the seat.

400A = "chubby looking black with a bit of chrome"

The chrome ball comes with 401A.

Looks like this.

Is there a quick way to swap shifters? I prefer the all chrome ball. How much is it at the dealers anyone know?

Just unscrew it. However, the leather below the standard shift **** has some kind of insert so that the leather lines up with the girth of the standard ****. You might have to replace the shift boot to make it look right.

Only problem with the polished ball is it gets scorchingly hot on warm days. Touch the aluminum on your dash on a warm day. G'head - see you long you can keep your finger on it!

Wouldn't be a big deal, except you need to touch it to drive.

So people resort to putting pieces of cloth over it whilst parked. Just one more thing to add to your routine.

Yeah, it looks good, but the past few months on these boards, many who have one have replaced it. That says something.

No way I'd give mine up! But the car is always garaged when I'm not driving it (home or work) so it's mostly a non-issue for me.

I took mine off a week ago. There isn't a set screw. Simply turn it counter clockwise with your hand. Grip the shift **** with both hands and twist. I had no trouble getting it off.

I replaced mine with a white Ol'skool type hurst ball. It was pretty hard to unscrew as Ford usd some sort of loc-tite stuff on the ball threads. But it did come off and the new ball looks awesome:
I have the Premier Interior with a white stripe down the center of the seats..so it contrasts that nicely!
