Default ESP - Extended Service PLan from Ford - is it as good as regular warranty?

3 year Premium plan (500 point) is $1400 with $100 deductible for a 2005 GT. Looks pretty comprehensive. I'm thinking about buying a used Mustang, so I'd really like some peace of mind. Besides I'm pretty sure that if anything breaks on the car, it will soon be the same $1000 or so.

Anyone had that?

Are you betting you'r car will crap the bed? Put that money into a CD that bears good interest. If you never need the extended warranty (which I'll bet you won't), you'll have some decent $$ when all is said and done. I don't believe in extended warranties in case you didn't notice.

I don't consider myself lucky. I know on most occasions people never use warranty, but I'd rather pay a grand and drive it like it's new.

I had the extended warranty on my Explorer that I traded for the Mustang. With the miles I drive each year I added it to the Mustang as well.

Last summer I blew the head gaskets with 80,000 miles on the Mustang - and Ford picked up the repair with me paying the $100 deductible. On my Explorer they rebuilt the rear end once at 40,000 and then replaced it at 75,000 miles. Putting the $1000 into a CD would not have covered the cost of the repairs - not to mention the peace of mind that it gave me with the number of miles I drive each year (I never get to the 3 years, always blow through the 36,000 in the second year).

i think its a waste of money

just find a decent mechanic that won't rape you and you will be fine

just look at the guy with 152k on his stang

unless you are lucky enough to live in a city with honest independent mechanics (Fantasy Island?) I feel it's better to get the Ext Warranty, especially if you keep your Mustang mostly stock and want the comfort of a warranty.

If you've modded your Mustang's engine or drivetrain it probably won't help much.

Did you check the prices online? I did today, and for my 2008 they were about $600 for my 2008. I see the ones for a 2005 that's off factory warranty are much higher:

I canceled mine that I got from them when I sold my 2005 and got a good refund and I think they are having sales on the Ext Warranty

Ford Premium-Care ESP is awesome

drop it off, they repair it, you pay Deductible and drive away.

The Program is very efficient, and you know immediately the car is covered, and will be fixed without the hassle of fighting the Warranty Company.

That # you got quoted seems very high though. I was quoted $540 to cover my Expy for a 4yr/48,000 mile term. I suggest you check out this site. BTW, don't buy it from a Dealership. They will rip you off by about x2 the actual rate. You need to get it online.

FYI: something as simply as a bad COP can cost you $500 if you take it to the Dealership. A bad tranny will run you $1,500 -3,000. A dead PCM will run you $1,200 or more.

You can throw that money in a CD...but the 1st time you have a major repair come due, you will be paying money out your butt...way more than the initial cost of a ESP.

I've bought Warranties on several Fords before. Only had to use it once...and that 1 time paid for almost all of them combined. I currently have the 5yr/60k Premiumcare ESP for my Expy and I'm glad for it. Any single thing that fails outside the Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty will cost me in excess of $1,000.

Trust me, it's definitely worth every penny but not as good as base warranty of course.

I have the Ford ESP PremiumCARE and pay $66/month for coverage up to 6 year/60k miles

I recently had my rear oil pan gasket leak fully covered
(Dealer told me it was going to cost $300+ to get repaired)

I have a $0 deductible (something I would strongly suggest)

I've also had my stereo head unit replaced a few times, which now looks brand new.
