Wink Prayers Needed

My 'Stang is in the hospital for a ring and pinion transplant. Surgery should be done by 3:30 or 4:00. If it is successful mobility should be vastly improved!

What ratio are you going with? 4.56?

I gotta drive it on the freeway, so I felt like 3.73 was a good alternative. Better than 3.31, anyway...

My prayers with you! Listen for whine. Do not accept any (particulary with the 3.73's). Do the brake in period 500 miles of pretty varying drive (do not just take on highway and drive on steady speed).

Hey Vasman, my car goes in for 3.73's in about a week or so. What needs to be done during the brake in period?

Thanks!

Many installers recommend different things. I did what it made more sense to me.

a/ No burn outs for 500 miles.
b/ Normal acceleration only. drive some city and some highway. when on highway do not put cruise control. Drive all the phasma of highway speeds (55-to 75) and not stay at any particular speed for too long (over 10-15 mins). After 500 miles it would be nice if you do a fluid change, and take out all the phosphorus and grinds from break in. Put in your favorite synthetic gear fluid (royal purple is mine) with a bottle of friction modifier.

So there should be NO whine at all from the get-go, right?

And thanks for the tips on break-in; I was going to ask the shop that exact question.

Only very minor stuff. In general terms no whine. Just a tad more louder than your stock.

Changed 5 gears. No whining gear got better... steady or worse.
