Waiting for 2011 V6 vs buying a discounted GT now
I'm torn between buying a whatever GT I can grab right now (lots of 2006 go for around $16-18000)
Many people say that it's stupid to buy a used GT (S197) now because next spring there will be V6s that will have more power... but a few things come to mind.
1. V6 models have always been boulevard cruisers, pigs with suspension tweaked for your hemorrhoids comfort rather than handling. You'd have to invest a lot of $$$ to make it handle like a V8.
2. Even though V6 will probably have a few more HP, but more than likely it will have a lot less torque due to ~1L less displacement.
3. The sound. V6 is not a V8.
4. The price. New V6s, even if they will cost within $1000 of the 2010 model, are more likely than not to be hot, and won't go anywhere close to invoice. Add destination charges and dealer fees etc... The gap between a used GT and new V6 becomes even wider.
5. The styling. Front: 2010 > 2009 but rear end 2009 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2010.
6. Mods. They are available for S197s NOW. Most likely than not, it will be a while before the market starts making mods for new engines.
7. The time of realese. Noone knows. When people say "spring" one might think March (the best scenario). But it could as well be May. Or even later (when the cars actually start appearing on dealer lots in sufficient quantity) That much wait might not be worth it.
A lot of this is pure speculation, and a lot of this has something to do with me wanting to get a Stang NOW, but I can wait till spring. I'm just trying to convince myself, I'm not doing a mistake by waiting for 2011s. The S197s GTs are relatively cheap now, and I can add the warranty for another grand if I want to.
What do you think about it?

2006 Used GT > 2011 V6 any day! 8 Cylinders FTW!!!
BTW, the 3.5 liter Duratec motor will not make more than 300 horsepower... probably around 265 - 275 hp. And yes, with a lot less torque and no V8 rumble!
So get a GT now!

maybe im wrong, but considering all these advertisements ive seen of all the different drift mustangs, i almost think that Ford is trying to get the market sorta the "tuner cars". I feel thats who they will be targeting the most for the twin turbo V6. so they wont quite be the "brick on wheels", but more of a performance oriented vehicle like the GT, i mean.. it IS twin turbo and all...
but then with the v8, you get all the things that come great with having a v8 over a v6: the sound, the power, the lower price and easier to find v8 parts. coming from a v6 owner, you hardly see ANY engine upgrades for our cars (for example: ive only ever seen one set of heads for it, ridiculously priced too) while you have tons of options for the v8s.
maybe im completely wrong.. who knows.
but, i would definitely go with a GT now, i hate myself a little more every day because i thought "gas will never go down in price from $4.50 a gallon, the v6 is the smarter solution" when i was getting my car. go with the GT.

* 3.7L V6 to be rated at 315 horsepower: Same as 2010 GT
* No immediate plans for EcoBoost V6 Mustang due to small horsepower gap between EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 (365 vs 400)
* 2011 Mustang GT to be rated at 400 horsepower, will get increase in 2012
* 2011 Mustang GT to get 6-speed transmission and variable valve timing
* 2011 Mustang GT Track Pack to include Brembo brakes
* 2011 Shelby GT500 to get Aluminum Block
* Next special edition: 2012 Boss

id do some research, the stock suspensions are close to identical and the v6 weighs less.
id wait for the new 6 too

If you read up, you will see that the 2010 V6 is running the EXACT suspension components found on the 2009 GT. The 2010 GT is running the 2009 Bullitt suspension that was tweaked.
The V6 will NOT be a turbo-charged 3.7. It's going to be N/A 3.7
