Think I've posted this before but what the hey...
My car had just come off the delivery truck the night before and so I have the winning total of having just 1 1/2 miles when I went to pick it out of the 4 GTs at the dealerships off-site lot. It wasn't ordered.
It had the plastic floor covers, not yet washed and only a gallon of gas in the tank.
It's important to realize that the MPG is affected by all operating speeds. So getting 9 MPG doesn't really mean it was dogged but that it could have run at idle for a while.
If you order a car and it has more than a couple of miles on it the dealership has allowed salesmen to test drive it and you will have a right to be furious!

Mine had 3 when I test drove it about 30 min after coming off the truck. First stop gas station. Then to a not too busy straight road near the dealership. Wide open up to 85 mph in third (I was still planning to order a black one). Bought the sonic blue next morning with 18 mi. on it and 14 of them I had put on.

picked mine up feb 26th, 2005...got it for myself for my 23rd birthday...customed ordered it..and yes i paid for it myself...had 4 miles on it...now has 5,600 as of july 11th

Do this:
Fill up your car.
Reset your info on mpg avg.
Drive it real easy for about 4 miles. maybe about (17-18 mpg avg)
Stop at 7-11
Get out of car, and let the engine idle for 3 minutes while you ask for directions. (Yes, I know guys don't ask for directions.)
Get back in and take a look at avg mpg now.
Your car wasn't driven hard by the dealership, it was probably standing still bringing down the avg during a test.
Cars come in with less than 10 miles on them, usually about 5 miles, sometimes more, sometimes less, but should never be more than 10.
If you drive this car hard for that short of distance, you'll have a avg mpg less than 14 mpg.
Fill up your car.
Reset your info on mpg avg.
