Default Tap water in coolant?

The coolant level is about 1 inch below the minimum mark on my reservoir. Do I have to buy a gallon of gold antifreeze just to add a little bit or can I just put some tap water in there to bring it up? I hate to buy a whole jug just to add a little.

If you want to add water add distilled water. Tap water has loads of junk in it that you don't want building up inside your engine.

Not a good idea in general for the reasons posted above. ^^^^
But if you add just a little, you won't hurt anything.

Distilled is preferred but if you're in a pinch (which it sounds like you're not), then tap water is better than overheating. Don't sweat it being about 1" low. Just keep an eye on it. Temperature changes can cause fluctuations. If it's still 1" low in a few days, go ahead and add.

Do you have a dehumidifier? If you have one use the water out of it.

You can use good clean rain water.

Or you could, you know, spend the fifty cents on the distilled water.

I just ordered the royal purp coolant additive. Anyone running that? Probably a waste of 12.00 but the descrp on was too good to pass for so little $
