Ive had my OEM mufflers off for a couple months enjoying the sound of the v8 but ive decided to put them back for a while (in an effort to convince myself to buy some boom tubes, and because the no muffler tips look is not a good one).

I started with the driver side and since neither hanger was attached to anything i guessed at where they went and it seemed like it worked ok until i noticed one hanger was loose. Both bolts were about as tight as a could get them but the hanger was not tight to the body, it would rattle around. Also the front hanger barely reaches the bar.

Any ideas as to what i may be doing wrong? Gonna grab a bite to each and start on the pass side and see if i encounter the same problems.

 

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Pics would help. Did you begin the re-install with the hangers attached to the stock axlebacks first? I'm sure their positioning would be evident that way.

 

They werent attached when i was storing them but i put them back on when i started to reinstall, everything seems to be in the right spot but the back hanger bolts wont lock the hanger down, the tighten up and the bracket is still loose. I may just add a washer or two to fix that problem. The bushing in the front bumper barely grabs the bar from the stock axle back. Perhaps i need to back the muffler off the h pipe a bit to get it to fit right??


On a side note i started a great DIY project during this. I noticed a bit of slag on my right muffler from when they rewelded the support so i brought out the sand paper and started polishing it up. It looks pretty good so far, but not quite a mirror finish. If it turns out good ill definitely get some pics and a how-to for that (even though its super easy)

Ill probably not put the mufflers on tonight since ive started polishing them.

 

Putting the stock mufflers back on is kind of hard b/c they're so big and kind of heavy. I had to do it once. Putting boomtubes on is easy since they're small and light. Screw the stocks and go buy some boomtubes!

 

Thats been my plan for quite some time but money is tight with all the gas i spend dribing to school plus bills. How much do you guys think i could sell my stock mufflers for? If its a decent amount i may do that and put the money towards boom tubes, if its minimal i my try and port them and see how it sounds

 

GT takeoff mufflers, especially off of a manual, are in high demand by the V6 guys. But I have no idea what to ask for them. Check around, including on ebay, for some idea.

If money is a issue, and your just tired of having no tips on the back of your car you can go to like autozone or what have you and get tips for like $20, then go to pretty much any muffler shop, buy like a $30 section of tube, and have them put a few bends in it, attach your tips and you end up with the equivalent to like SLP loud mouths for about $100

 

Ive thought about that aswell, but im wondering if i can strategically drill some holes in my mufflers to make them louder but still cleaner then pure straight pipes. Im not sure what ill end up doing at this point. Next chance i get ill probably finish polishing the tips of the OEM ones and reinstall them since i didnt finish today then decide if i wanna keep it loud
