I realized there was no trunk release button when I shut my trunk with the keys inside when I was 50 miles from home and no spare key. The extended warranty & AAA saved my *** on that. I now keep a key copy in my owners manual

That's one of the joys of owning a convertible. Coupe guys can drop the rear seat backs and crawl into the trunk.

I put my release in the glove box...

Just a handful of small parts & a few feet of wire.

The FORD part number for the switch is: D3AY-19C542-A I think it was about $6 or $7.

Here's the link to Taco Bill's install write up:

I've never understood the appeal of trunk release buttons for S197s. Just use the button on the key fob! It's easier than opening the center console, too.

I hate carrying key fobs. I don't carry the one for my SUV. But when I drive the Stang, I feel like I HAVE to. If I install the trunk release button I can dump the FOB.

I like the trunk button because I keep my FOB in my pocket and my ignition key on one of those "break away" key rings. It is a pain to get to the FOB at the Airport or other loading zone when I am in the drivers seat. It might not be something everyone needs but I like having it.

Another good place to locate the button is on the drivers kick panel above the hood release.

locking your keys in the trunk would really suck, having the botton would help in that situation unless your dumb enough to have locked the doors also...lol
