No, there would not be completely separate assembly lines for the two, but it would involve an entirely new delivery system and new mounting assembly system, new installation assembly machines, and that is after having two 100% separate factories for the 4.6 and 5.0 motors along with the delivery lines those two unique engines demand. So, yes, it would be completely stupid of Ford to make two different motors for the GT. I 100% guarantee that if the 5.0 does get announced for the Mustang, there will be no more 4.6 anymore. And there will be a 5.0 in the GT. Its just smart business and what every source on the net has said. As I stated before, I would bet any amount of money that the 4.6 will not exist next year.

All the 4.6 guys want a 5.0? Buy a fox body 5.0 and clean er up and mod her to your liking. (Like im doing ) MUCH cheaper then buying a brand new 5.0 2011 GT. Hell, even swapping in a modded 302 into your s197 would be cheaper then getting a new 2011 strictly for the engine.

And yay for engine improvement and slightly more displacement, but when is Ford going to address one of the most troubling aspects of Fords pony car? LIVE AXLE! Mulally should step it up and finally fork over the cash for IRS on the mustangs...or perhaps even the majority of the Ford fleet.

As much as I would like a newer mustang, no IRS is holding me back. Im happy with my 89 GT 5.0, and its the only stang ill own till the live axle is no longer on the mustang. At least offer IRS as an option....

A) I don't want the 5.0 old or new. I am ordering a 2010 because I want the durable and fun 4.6L. I love the engine.

B) News flash dude - All Ford products except the Mustang and F-Series Trucks have IRS. So I am not sure what you mean by your comment I bolded above.

C) I totally agree with you. The new 5.0 will not cause me to think about a 2011+ Mustang. But - if IRS shows up on the Mustang, my 2010 will be sitting on a used car lot somewhere and I will be driving a new one with IRS.

My bad. It was to my understanding the majority of the Ford fleet was live axle. I stand corrected. Thanks

"I would certainly wait. For all the "buy a '10 and put a blower on it" crowd -- there are other things to think about. Such as: financing (typically can't finance a blower/install/tune) upgrade potential, resale (won't get much/anything back for the blower when you sell), Insurance (it won't be covered, and may be grounds for some companies to deny coverage/claims altogether IIRC), and potentially reliability (though both should be pretty good). So, it really isn't as simple a financial calculation as it seems. :

All very real and compelling points. In addition, the savings on the 2010 will be off-set by the cost of the blower. If you go with Roush for the warranty, you get 435 safe HP. Then subtract 20 to 30 HP to run the blower and you are close to the 5.0 HP without any of the hassles. Then add CAI/tune and you are ahead. The Roush can be added later if you feel you now need 500+ HP.

Regarding two V8s; Can't see that happening. The GT just has to compete with the Camaro SS or they will lose sales as the Camaro becomes more easily available down the road. Maybe a special edition, but it will most likely be a varient of the 5.0. I suspect the 4.6 is gone.

Cheers.

Ford does not have to compete with the Camaro! In almost every reveiw the Mustang is on top. There is not too many people that cross shop the Mustang and the Camaro.

It is definately NOT a good business decission to drop the 4.6L when there are so many 2010's sitting on the lots. Maybe faze them out in 2011-2012, but I doubt it will be a 400hp 5.0L.

I have said it many times the 5.0L WILL be the Special Edition Boss if one is released in 2011.

Mustangs are supposed to be affordable cars with a lot of room to improve to your liking.
Put an IRS in a Mustang and the "affordable" ticket just went out the window.

Besides, the S197 does just fine with its solid axle, even in racing.
So I say f*** the IRS!!

+1 Pascal... why would I want IRS when it adds to the cost of the vehicle and 200 - 300 lbs to the weight? I love the live axle!
