V6 to V8 swap. What's required?

Lol, typical responses.
"get a v8 instead of v6" la, la, la.
Nothing wrong with doing a swap if you know what you're doing and have what you need. With a stock gt engine, you'll get under 300 hp on a stock setup, near what a mild blower setup on the v6 can do.
For a swap, you you need engine, tranny, ecu, and engine wiring harness as the main components. Additionally, you'll need 2 different a/c lines to the a/c compressor.
While the 5r55s in the v6 is internally the same, it's not the same bolt-up to a v8 and is a different input shaft.
FWIW, I'm doing the swap, building up the v8, and will throw some mean boost to it when done.
You'll need a 8.8 rear end instead of the stock 7.5 rear. If you have an aftermarket 1-piece driveshaft, you should be able to use it.
It can be done, not that difficult. Swap out the computer and use the proper engine/tranny wiring harness and that part is taken care of.

that is just my point. by the time you are done, the only thing that is really the same as the basic V-6 is the shell of the car.
hell, you even should swap out the springs front/rear to account for the engine and the extra body roll a V-8 will produce
unless you are lucky enough to source an entire donor car...and at a great price, I just cannot fathom doing this swap.
It truly is cheaper & easier to just trade out to another car.
when you both are done, look back at the process and tell us your thoughts...honestly. I rather doubt either would do it again

The harness under the dash is the same so you'll just need the ECU and engine bay harness. I am not sure if the pats is coded into the gauge pod like the SN's so make sure you have a way to turn off the PATS.

this is what i wanted to do also... but basically everybody has talked me out of it... but ive put so much appearance stuff into my stang that it would cost me more to trade in and redo it all... so i think im just going to hold on until i get a truck or some other car and il slowley work on this... or just join the USMC... college is so impacted and rediculous these days, my freind is going on his 4th 1/2 year at a 2 yr JC... and its only gunna get worse, last year it sook a 8 mill cut, now its going to suffer an additional 15mill budget cut...

Like I said...
If you have a donor car and you can do the labor yourself, it won't be a money pit, just time consuming.
So in that case only, it's worth it.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, why go for a stock, slow 4.6?
Unless you build the bottom end, stroke it and put that big Whipple in there...
After all this trouble, I'd want nothing less than 500rwhp in that car.

Been there, done that. It was fun for awhile. But me want more power
There's a lot of mods I've made to the car, including appearance and other things, and I weighed the option of just getting a GT and swapping stuff over and taking stuff off the V6 before selling it. (I am, btw, looking for gt, in case I find a good deal on one with the right color combo.)
But in the end, it'll be a V8, built engine, and eventually blown. Whatever shell it's in doesn't make that much difference. Getting there, I still have to pull out the V8 engine, and will upgrade the tranny as well, so why buy another car if that work is going to be done anyway?
But, to each his own.
