You're still alive and not in a burn unit so I'll assume the OM didn't spontaneoulsy burst into flames when it was exposed to light.
Window recalibration is one of many possible outcomes of a dead battery. Although I've disconnected my battery quite a few times for 1/2 hour at a time with no ill affects.

There are online (pdf) versions of the OM for various years. I believe I have the '06 and '07 on my drive. I find them very useful for doing a search of a particular issue instead of leafing thru the hardcopy. And the pdf version is less likely to catch fire than the hardcopy.
