Default Flex plate issue?

I brought my Mustang in for service, found out Ford installed a faulty Flex Plate between the trans and the motor...TSB issue, but they are going to charge me $700 to fix. Has anyone else had this issue? sounds like a bad Cat, but turns out its not!

I've got it, or what sounds like it based on the TSB symptom description... momentary metal rattle (sounds like a heatshield) at about 2000rpm when cold...

Bugs me, but not $700 worth. It only does it when cold.

(It's not called a flex plate, btw, that's what takes the place of the flywheel on autotragic cars)

This is a known issue and most are familiar with the TSB.

Some dealerships will work with you on TSB work after the warranty has expired. Others are azzholes.

I have the same issue but have learned to live with it. I'm afraid of taking it to the dealership because I have aftermarket exhaust (offroad pipes). They'll probably claim it's the exhaust that's causing the noise. lol

There was a thread quite some time ago, where a member fixed it himself. I'm not sure of the specifics about it though. You can try searching for it.

Hmmm...I'm gonna have to try that. How long did it take to complete the job? Did you have to separate the tranny from the motor to get the rubber washers behind and in front of the plate? I only have two jack stands and a floor jack and wondering what else I would need for the job. Thanks!

I had this problem and for me if I could not do it myself I would definitely have it done by the dealer(or shop). $700? Alot, maybe but the rattle drove me insane. I can't stand driving my car when there's a problem with it. I guess though this is personal opinion.

When I took my car in for this problem AND others I left all my mods on and never had a problem. This was also a dealer i would certainly not think of as "cool". It really just depends. If your that worried then take the exhaust off and go in. I would try and get it fixed for free under warranty before you have to pay out of pocket.

Its not the flex plate that is the problem,it's the plate that goes between the motor and trans, take like ten mins. if you look at the bottom of the trans you well see the plate and 2 bolts you have to remove.
