Faulty Black Chrome Wheels--Others Black Chrome Wheels are holding up much better
#13
Here are two links that discribe the Black chrome process. You need to scroll down a bit on both links to see the pertinent info. It seems that black chrome isn't as sturdy a plating as regular or more common plating processes. IMO it probably isn't the ideal plating to use for wheels.

Thanks Shella for those pictures, it clearly shows that it's a defect, not a miss care issue.

I think everyone is starting to understand that there is more than one process being marketed as black chrome. Some are more of a black translucent film over chrome and others are an actual multi plating process. The multi plating process is very expensive and as you'll hear in the PodCast link, it is about 3X the cost of standard nickel chrome plating.

...You could always steal Laura's.
Nothing wrong with hers!
Anyway, we're still waiting for that Cervini cowl hood,

I think at this point it is VERY important that you state the manufacture of any black chrome rims that are having this issue. We may be able to track down a root cause if we find out a common thread between the issue and manufacture.

Because that's where the problem lies I bet you.
Edelbrock makes intakes with the Permastar finish... It's almost like black chrome.
I had one in my Cougar when it had the 347.
It looked great and stayed that way, despite the heat and everything.
The brighter version is called Endurashine.
This Permastar finish is proof that it can be done with no issues.

I am still waiting, too!! I had some situational circumstances change, and I had a choice.
Continue to mod the gt and sell the gt500.....or halt further mods to the gt and keep the gt500......thus no cowl hood.
Actually I have been researching and considering the Carroll Shelby CS40's, and Wheel Replica has a better finish warranty (3 years) than the CS wheels (1 year) !!

Are you ready to go to China?
Because that's where the problem lies I bet you.

If I ever have to replace my Bullits, those CS 40 will go on there.
I just don't like the "Shelby" name on the lip because..............................well my car isn't even close to be a Shelby, lol.
Those will look maybe even better (gun metal, why not) on your white Stang...
