Anyone else had bad Battery terminal corrosion?
My positive battery terminal is all gunked up with corrosion. Has this happened to anyone else's Mustang? How did you clean it, or will the dealer cover it since my car is still under warranty?

I cleaned my positive terminal on my 07 GT @ once a month, starting when I bought it.
The terminal finaly rotted away from the corusion.
The dealer was glad to replace the harness that included the positive cable, under warranty,as well as the battery that was cracked around the post.
The battery being cracked(probably since the car was new)leaking acid fumes caused the corrosion.
Check with your service dept.

I have not had the problem. I coat the posts and terminals with petroleum jelly. There are also pads available to put around the posts, before the terminals are connected to the posts. For cleaning, baking soda and water mixed to form a paste is good. Work it around with an old toothbrush and then rinse with plain water.
If your battery is cracked, I doubt any of the above will work. They are more to prevent corrosion from the normal outgassing of a battery.

Usually, that white crud around the terminal is an indication that the battery case is cracked and is offgasing. The thru-case terminal points are "weak links" in the casing and are prone to this. If this is the stock Motorcrap battery it's probably about time to consider a new battery anyway.
Some have been able to get their dealership to provide a new battery under warranty. IMPO, I wouldn't count on it.

Happens to all cars with enough time, especially if you don't use preventatives for this problem. Just use some water and baking soda, or buy battery terminal cleaner. Just make sure you don't let it get too bad before cleaning or there will be more permanent damage to the terminals or clamps.

Negative on the baking soda.
If just a little bit gets inside a battery
cell and its downhill for that battery.
CDC Battery Cleaner with Acid Indicator
There are products out there to remove the corrosion
and other products to prevent it from coming back as well.
The good stuff is made by CRC and its red in color...

My positive connection went south bout 6 months old and
I fixed it. 2 years later and no more corrosion.
I touch up the connections with the spray everytime
I am under the hood.
Take that leaky motorcraftola 'sealed' leaker.
The green and red pads help also - unless youi
put the green pad on the positive and the red
pad on the negative.

Well I bought some of the Battery terminal cleaner. Guess I will try to clean it tomorrow or I will call my Dealer and ask if they can do it for me. Depends how bad the terminal got eaten. Thanks for the help.
