Default Cold Mornings

Hi !

The cold is beginning here, now in the mornings is taking more work to start up, I have tried turning on the switch to let the gas go but its the same.

Is it normal because of cold ?

Thanks

Please provide more info. We have little to go on here. Is it cranking slow? Cranking longer before it starts? Stalling? How was it before it got cold (when we assume it was starting normal) vs. now? What are the differences? How cold is it there? In the northern US, the gas chemistry changes in some areas that causes drivability problems but that usually doesn't occur until we're near freezing. But aren't you in Mexico? By cold, do you mean below 60 deg. F.?

I will say it is cranking slow, when i turn on the key like she doesn´t want to start. Compared to normal, it will start and RPMs will go high and i can hear the engine very good.

Now when is cold in the morning it will crank slow but if i just turn it off and then start it up again it will go as normal.
Yes we are like 60 de F today and will go down to 46F until january i guess.

Thanks

My only GUESS based on your additional info is a weak battery. And if that's what it is, then it'll only get worse as the temps get cooler. Lower temperature = lower battery capacity.

I replaced my battery 3 months ago, it dead with no reason, when the battery was dead the cranking was horrible, like the engine wanted to blow, not the normal sound on a dead battery, i never thought it was the battery, i took it to the stelearship we made some test with this tool who tells you the variable of the battery and we put a new one and it started with no issues.

If the batter is "new" i can try the alternator or what else can i do ?

Thanks

The dealer or any good shop can load test both the battery and the alternator. If you're experiencing hard starts due to slow cranking, then I'd start there. Otherwise and probably much less likely, you have a bad cable or you're starter has a few shorted windings causing it to pull more current when you crank.

I would look at the battery as the culprit. How cold is it there, where you are?

As nuke said, colder it is out the worse the battery performs. So if something is wrong with the battery then it will really stand out when its colder out. But its not below 0F then I wouldn't think it would have a problem. Even in the low teens the car should start fine.

My car does the same thing I went and had my battery tested and the entire charging system as well. And I have a brand new battery. But everything was fine they said and of could be a timing issue.
