Default Automatic Transmission Resisting Me

I got in my car today, started i up, went to put it in reverse and noticed it took about twice the effort as usual to get the shifter in gear. Same thing when I went to put it in drive, lots of resistance. No leaks at all.

I did a search and people were saying because of the cold it may be hard to put in gear, but I've had the car for 2 years and never had this problem. I got the transmission flushed at 60k miles, and I'm sitting on 73k right now.

What's the temperature in NY right now?
It's got to be the cold and the fact that your linkage/shifter might be drying out on grease a bit.
The combo of those 2 factors will do that to ya.

Were you on an incline? There was one time where I parked the car on a slight slope and forgot the e-brake. When I went to shift it into gear there was more than usual resistance since the car was resting on the transmission in park.

+1 on an inclined deal^^^^^
I always use the parking brake on an auto if I'm not parked on a flat spot.
The trick is to put the E-brake on while you still have your foot on the main brake pedal before turning the car off.

No inclines or anything. I think its the linkage I've got to get greased up. No problems with the tranny when I'm driving.

Alright, so I took it in and this is what they had to say

Dude "Nothing is wrong with the transmission, no lube needed for the linkage. The shifter needs to be replaced."

Me "Oh thats good to hear, how much for a new one?"

Guy "Four-oh-five."

Me "Four hundred five dollars?"

Guy "Yes"

-pause-

Guy "So did you want us to put it in?"

Me "No"

So if anyone has a new shifter for the 2005-2009 mustang, let me know, haha

Put lithium grease in your shifter and you're done.

I don't know anything about the subject, but if greasing ends up fixing it, I'd take it right back and smack that tech in the face.

that looks soo damned cool!

The only worry is that if I have to bring it in for service.. with the tech banging through the gears trying to get it into "D" lol..

or in an emergency situation and the driver does not know how to use the rachet feature..
