Default DIY Delete Plates Possible??

I don't know how many have noticed but the economy delete plates are no longer being made I guess, and I will NOT pay $300 for about 6-10 RWHP. Anyone know if its doable to remove the butterflies from the factory plates on your own?

Here's a simple and cheaper way than $30.

Take off plates. Drill rivets off butterfly's. Pull the rod out. Fill holes with some of that metal putty. Let harden. Smooth with dremel. Reinstall. Tune. Drive... Done, all for about $7.00 and some time.

I just made a set myself last week but haven't installed them yet. I got a spare set of stock plates from a guy for $20 so my own wouldn't be tied up.
