Default What is the speaker looking thing under the rear seats?

What are those upside down speaker looking things under the rear seats?

They have wires going into the center of them.

and ... I read once they were access areas to stuff underneath, which I don't get, cuz they don't seem easily removed (I didn't try very hard though) and the wires leading into them makes them seem like they are powered themselves.

Can I put sound-deadening stuff right over them? should I cut out hles around them?

thanks

i would cut holes in the sound-deadening stuff.
those are access holes, for fuel tank components.

you are welcome.

the rear seats alone cut down a lot of the
noise....i know because i drove around for
awhile without them, after changing the fuel
pump. adding that extra material under the
seats should make it even better.

The one on the driver's side gives access to the fuel pump. The one on the other side gives access to nothing, but it's there because we have a saddle-shaped tank and theoretically something could get stuck on that side and need fishing out.

well it's nice to know those holes aren't pre-installed areas for a toilet-upgrade. haha

I had a J&M UCA/LCA's, shocks/struts, and springs installed couple weeks ago ... the road noise sounds cool, with the radio off. ;-)

at highway speeds though that hum is drowning out the radio bigtime. I don't want to add too much sound dampening cuz of the weight, but the rear seats and I think right over the rear wheel wells in the trunk is prolly where I'll do it only.
