New 2011 GT Better be faster than a Jeep!
#22
WTF is this ****? A Jeep is supposed to be an off road vehicle. Being fast on the street is losing focus of what a Jeep was designed for and makes about as much sense as making a Prius a performance vehicle. Same goes for trucks. It's for working/hauling FFS!
Chrysler totally ruined the Jeep brand by turning away from the hardcore off-road type it used to be to this oh look at me I'm a cool soccer mom thing.
If I had a jeep I can guarantee it would not be fast. But it would have the low end power to muck through deep mud and climb a freaking wall..you know, what a Jeep is SUPPOSED to be able to do. It would also be an early 80's CJ-7 or similar.
The Hummer brand was also screwed up thanks to the H2 and H3. The brand went from being this ultimate off road machine to a hey look at how much money I have thing...and the vehicles (H2 and H3) suffered for it with very poor off road performance.
Lame.
(BTW, this is not the first time I heard about the Jeep SRT8 in-case it may sound that way)

i still cant believe you guys are trying to say that just because its name and who its built by, they cant make a fast street performance jeep. i think its cool that they can put something on the streets that is special in its own way. the SRT8 GC is the only jeep id buy, and i think they have something that a true car enthusiest would appriciate. Just like saying a truck is ONLY for hauling stuff?!?!? The lightning, the STR-10 Viper truck, the Syclone. Theres a market for these kinds of vehicles and thats why they build them. Dont be so close minded as to say they shouldnt build it just because YOU dont see a need for these kinds of vehicles.

Just some facts that maybe you should take into consideration:
The sports tuned suspension allows the Jeep SRT8 to hold 0.92g on the skid-pad, putting the 5,000 lb (2,300 kg) truck on par with the Porsche 911 Turbo (997), which holds just 0.04g more (0.96g) on the skid-pad. A road test of the 2006 model by Road & Track magazine yielded a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.6 seconds and a quarter mile dragstrip of 13.2 seconds at 104.1 miles per hour (167.5 km/h). Such numbers made the SRT-8 Grand Cherokee the fastest accelerating vehicle within the SRT8 lineup (which at the time included the Chrysler 300C, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and the now-discontinued Dodge Magnum), and second only to the SRT10 Viper among all SRT tuned vehicles.

granted some of you may not care for this, but i love my Lightning and I do rotate is with the SGT for a daily driver. yes i have towed appx 6000 lbs plus a bed full of household goods from NYC to PHOENIX and still walked right past everybody in the colorado/new mexico/arizona mountains with ease..
