Default Brake Rotors

Long story short, had to have my 06 towed to the dealership last week because the E-brake was frozen, only to find out that the left rear cable had been frozen engaged for long enough to warrant needing a new rotor (Must have even been before I bought it, I never noticed it). This requires an entire rear brake job as well as replacing the emergency brake (all three cables). As Murphy's law would have it, my three years were up last month at 35K and Ford told me to pound sand as far as warranty help. I'm not shelling out the $600-$700 the dealership wants as I can do it at my brother's shop for the cost of parts only (and a 4 hour drive). I was looking on ebay and see quite a few sellers selling slotted, cross-drilled rotors sets for around $200-$300 for all 4. Has anyone bought from any of them and are they decent quality at all? I was thinking I could replace all 4 rotors and get the pads through my brother as well as the emergency brake parts at a slight discount.

TIA

You can get a set of new rotors from Newtakeoff.com for $40.00 plus shipping. I would just do that unless I planned to do the entire car with upgraded stuff. Slotting and cross drilling look cool but have marginal utility on the way to work. Good on you for doing it yourself!

Oh and why would you need new cables? At least inspect them and see if they can be cleaned up and reused. New pads are also available from Newtakeoff.

Common problem, it sucks. The stealership here wanted 250 to change the cables.

And I would go with new take off too if all you want is reliable and cheap.

I broke the front cable trying to free up the brakes so I could get to work by pulling up and down on the handle a little too hard. The left rear cable is frozen in the engaged position (long enough that it wore down the left rear caliper to the point of needing replacement). The cables are not available aftermarket and the front one comes with the e-brake handle attached for around $79 at my brother's cost.

You need new cables because the rubber boots on the ends of the cables have broken down and no longer keep the water out. You have to buy new cables to get the new boots.

It sucks and is a PITA. I still have yet to replace mine. In the mean time I just don't use the e brake.
