Anyone know if there's a difference between the aluminum vs. plastic intake with regards to heat from the engine and the ambient temperature, or is it just for weight?
Thanks,
E

The aluminum will hold a bit more heat but in the overall scheme of things, the impact on RWHP is miniscule. IMO, the aluminum is more for show.

As far as being able to hook up, I found that my stock tires just wouldn't cut it. I went with wider, stickier tires which was just barely enough to make up for the extra HP. Since I don't race, I haven't bothered (yet) with any suspension mods.

i have the brenspeed c&l racer/tune package and i love it. always makes me happy seeing the front end of the car rise up a little bit when i gas it. that and it made my exhaust sound much more aggressive than my buddy with a competitor's tune.

my only complaint is that it has me constantly looking for tires with more grip. shame on you brenspeed. leading all those tires to a painful bald death. how do you sleep at night

The whole aluminum vs plastics argument was brought up in some areas where the ambient temp can be upwards of 105+ on a regular basis on daily driving (phoenix, parts of tx, parts of FL, and so on).

Aluminum is a better heat conductor than plastic so the argument was made that aluminum will heatsoak and remain hotter longer, than a plastic intake. I live in AZ so I'm going for Bama's C&L Street/racer combo, larger MAF from the racer with the plastic elbow from the street version (or vice versa). Anyways really hot intake air can cause pinging when the computer can't retard the timing any further to compesate. On my stock auto I will sometimes get pinging during the summer on the freeway if I floor it while cruising. This is with both 87 and 89 octane on the stock tune and stock intake. When temps are lower I can run 87 without any adverse affects.

Thanks Nuke for the reply.
Derf00- I'm thinking along the same lines. I have a concern about heatsoak as I also live in AZ.

Nuke.
I finally installed my C&L Racer intake and Brenspeed tunes. I have 87 tune right now because my tank was full of 87 oct. As soon as I get higher Octane in it I will retune. Thinking of going with -89 tune just for saving money at the pump and my car been a DD.
Report: WOW even with 87 tune it screeeeems...
Do you know if the redline is still 6250RPm or is it raised to 6500RPM. Didn't test it.
So far loving it....

I just recently ordered a C&L Racer from Brenspeed. I had the Brenspeed 93 tune with my K&N intake..... even that was a night and day difference..... I will let you all know if I feel a big difference with the new C&L.... according to them it will make about 10 more horsepower because the K&N is has a stock diameter MAF housing.

As for the plastic vs aluminum..... its simple chemistry. The Aluminum C&L street will ABSOLUTELY absorb and retain more heat than a plastic C&L Racer. As everyone here knows, hot air is much less dense than cold air. Thus the less oxygen molecules that enter the combustion chamber, the less horsepower is produced. Plastic FTW!!
