Default steering problem after wreck

The steering wheel turns a few milimiters before the wheels start to turn. It feels as though there is a gap between the weels and the steering wheel. So the steering wheel moves a bit, and it's really light then, and then it hits something and the wheels start to move and the steering wheel gets heavy.

my old mustang did that sort of...maybe tie rods are bent..or teh steering box is f'd up..i replaced both on my old 1995 mustang but that was after 130K miles...maybe your accident wacked it out...did you get a alignment...or maybe your sway bar could be bent

Sounds like you need a new steering rack.

Back in the "Day", the steering box had a set screw adjuster on the top of the box. This allowed you to "tighten / loosen" the steering a bit. I have not looked at the new 05 setup. Anyone know if there are any "user" adjustable twisty thingys on the 05's?

My guess would be a gearbox issue. Id hope they would'nt miss bent tie rods.

Take it back and have them fix it. Steering "slop" or "play" can be a huge safety issue.

i knew it was the steering rack because I had to exact same problem...When you drive the car now, just take it easy. it's really hard to control especially when you slam the gas pedal. My car was zig-zagging all over the place until they replaced the steering rack.
