^^^ yep autos are stronger!

but how i see it, if you go far enough with the mods to drop trannys, your gonna want a aftermarket tranny anyways, so go for whatever you like.. auto is easier and sometimes better, but manual is WAY more fun IMO

I hear you about the fun driving manuals but when you only have one leg, manuals are a touch tricky

All my previous cars have been manuals but after my accident I can't drive them anymore. So I'm looking for something entertaining to drive, not super expensive where an auto doesn't do .5 second worse than the stick, and where a modded auto doesn't bomb with a few mods.

Thanks for all the input, I appreciate it alot.

I love my manual tranny.

That's all I got to say about that.

I think that when it comes to these cars, both can be loads of fun to drive ....so imho it just boils down to preference

to answer your question, you are not going to break either tranny with power. Like dc_mann said - if you get to that point, you are going to buy aftermarket anyway.

As far as which is better......the auto maybe takes 4% more power from the drivetrain than a manual. Lots of guys are actually faster with an auto because you have to be very good to shift perfectly.

Yes, I drive a manual LOL.

My auto has been very reliable. In terms of comparing it against the manual it is very quick but I would say slightly slower than a manual - we are not talking alot of difference here though, maybe an idea to buy the Predator!

what it boils down to:

If you truly like to race...you need a manual. Why? Because of the extra driveline loss on the auto. So stock, the manual car makes more power from the factory...from dynos that I have seen, the auto makes about 240-245rwhp while the manuals make about 255-260rwhp. Also, auto does not make as much power as the manual in terms of aftermarket. Manual also gets better gas mileage

Buy an auto if you don't know how to drive manual and you are not willing to learn, or someone else in the family also drives the car and they don't know how to drive stick, OR you are in bumper to bumper traffic all day long and you can't be bothered shifting.

But regardless, as you can see from my slightly skewed post, I prefer a manual transmission because I have more control over the car.

ARISE FROM THE DEAD THREAD, ARISE!

Anyhow, can the 05-06 auto with 4.10 gears and a tune handle 450 rwhp? Maybe 500?

The only other advice I could give you regarding a mod for your GT automatic is to:

Get a bigger gear set...

I installed a 3.73 into my automatic because I will one day supercharge and "it does make a difference in performance"...

Good Luck,

Dave
